Now that I’m in my forties, I sometimes find myself wondering:
the work I do now cannot be the whole of my life, so what will I choose to do when this chapter comes to an end?
I currently work in semiconductor materials development. I have spent more than a decade in this field, and it remains an important part of my life. But I know that one day I will leave this work behind, and I do not want to wait until then to start thinking about what comes next.
I don’t know the answer yet.
I simply want to start looking for it now.
These days, I try to document more of my life than I used to. I take photographs and videos, read books, and travel. When something new catches my interest, I give it a try. I keep track of exercise because I want to stay healthy and active for a long time. And I started this blog to give a place to thoughts that had previously stayed only in my head.
Looking back, perhaps these are not separate hobbies after all.
I think they are all part of discovering what I enjoy, what continues to hold my attention, and what I keep coming back to. By experiencing things and recording them one by one, perhaps the dots that are invisible now will eventually connect and reveal something new I would like to pursue later in life.
So the things I keep here are not only a record of where I have been. They are also a way of discovering how I want to live from here.
There is only so much I can discover by thinking alone. I want to put what I see, feel, and think out into the world. If someone reads it and shares a different perspective, I may look again at something I had taken for granted or notice a direction I had never considered.
This blog was not created to present neatly packaged answers. I started it precisely because I don’t have the answers yet.
I want to keep searching, little by little, by documenting, reading, learning, experiencing, and talking with people.
Perhaps the records that gather here will someday connect and become small clues that help me begin the next chapter of my life.
